Soda City Combat Club

What to Expect at Your First Jiu-Jitsu Class, Soda City Combat Club in West Columbia

Almost everyone is nervous before their first class. Here is what actually happens, so you can stop worrying and just show up.

Before class

Wear athletic clothes with no zippers, pockets, or metal. Bring water. Arrive ten minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach.

The warm-up

Ten minutes of movement. Nobody cares how fit you are. Do what you can.

The technique

Ready to try a class? Your first one is free.

The coach shows one or two moves, then you practice them with a partner at a slow pace. Your partner will be someone who knows how to help a beginner.

Live training

Some classes end with light rounds. You can watch, or you can join with a coach or experienced partner who will go easy. Nobody will throw you into a shark tank.

After class

A coach will ask how it went and answer your questions. That is it. No sales pitch, no pressure.

The only thing we expect from you is that you show up. Everything else we can teach.
